Adrian Mateos wins Caribbean Poker Party Main Event
Spanish poker player Adrian Mateos continues to show excellent results in live events. Not that long ago, he won the $25 000 Super High Roller event, which took place as part of the PartyPoker Millions World 2019 in the Bahamas.
This time, the player managed to take down the Main Event Caribbean Poker Party cost $10 300. There were 24 poker players to take part in the final day of the tournament, but fortune favored Adrian. It is worth noting that the players were fighting for more than $1 million.
PartyPoker Team Pro Ludovic Geilich started the game as a chip leader, but this advantage did not help him get to the final table. The guy finished the tournament in the 14th place, having received $65 000 in prize money. Such well-known poker professionals as Ryan Riess, Alex Foxen, Andras Nemeth and Philipp Gruissem also battle for the first place and the six-figure win.
Ryan Riess left the game right after Ludovic. Alex Foxen lasted a bit longer; he was knocked out of the event by the future runner-up Aaron Van Blarcum. Riess and Foxen received $80 000 each for the 13th and 12th places respectively.
German poker player Philipp Gruissem managed to get to the final table, but was the first of nine finalists to eliminate. His prize money amounted to $140 000.

The final deal
Chris Hunichen, Aaron Van Blarcumand and Adrian Mateos formed the top 3 leaders. Chris had a huge advantage in stack, but soon the situation changed.
During the break, the poker players decided to make a deal. Thus, Hunichen guaranteed himself $1 097 195, Mateos received $1 062 805, and Aaron Van Blarcum was supposed to get $970 000. After that, the guys continued to fight for the trophy and $100 000.
As a result, Chris Hunichen took the 3rd place after failing all- in with A-3 when Van Blarcum called his bet with A-K.
The players started the heads-up having almost equal stacks, but Mateos quickly widened the gap in chips. In the final hand, Aaron put all his chips on the line having 10-2, and Adrian called the bet with J-9. The flop showed 9-A-8, then Q appeared on the turn, and the river brought six of hearts, securing the victory for the Spanish player.
Aaron Van Blarcum received $970 000 for finishing in the second place. This is an excellent result and the player’s second big win this year – a few months ago he won one of the tournaments worth $5 000 at the WPT Legends of Poker.
Adrian Mateos became the Main Event Caribbean Poker Party champion. The Spaniard beat a field of 947 opponents and won $1 162 805 ($1 062 805 according to the deal + $100 000 for the first place).
«That one is special. Before this I was on the biggest downswing of my career. So this is huge to recover the confidence» – said Adrian after winning the event.
