Bin Weng and Kristen Foxen Lead GPI Player of the Year Leaderboards
With only a few days and a few small tournaments left until the end of the season, it's time to take a look at the annual leaderboards and find out who is the main contender for the title of the best player in different categories. One such authoritative leaderboard is the Global Poker Index or GPI.
It is a comprehensive ranking system evaluating over 450,000 international live poker tournament participants. Updated on a weekly basis, this index assesses players based on their results and finishing positions in various poker tournaments. The data from the GPI is instrumental in the annual Global Poker Awards, an event akin to the "Oscars" of poker, which recognizes outstanding performers across different categories in the poker world.
According to this rating, the main contender for the title of the best tournament player in 2023 is the American of Chinese origin Bin Weng. Weng has six big victories this year, including winning the $25,300 buy-in High Roller event at the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas. His main competitors for MVP are Nacho Barbero, Isaac Haxton, Danny Tang and Tony "Ren" Lin.
In the category of the best woman in poker in 2023, Kristen Foxen confidently leads. With the WPT World Championship 33rd-place result, Kristen moved 400 rating points ahead of rival Nadia Magnus and is one step away from winning the Women's Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career.
As always, the final results and names of the winners will be announced at the beginning of 2024.
