Brazilian girl turns freeroll ticket into $13K at PartyPoker
Liliane Figueiredo is a Brazilian girl who plays poker at an amateur level. In August, she managed to secure 5-figure prize money for third place in the $109 6-Max Warm Up at PartyPoker.
The girl entered the given tournament thanks to the Second Chance freeroll. All players who fail in satellites to the WPT Online events or in any tournament of the series receive a ticket to the Second Chance freeroll. In one of such free tournaments, Liliane won a ticket to the 6-Max Warm Up worth $109 where took third place, earning $13 153.
According to the girl, she played $3.30 satellites throughout the WPT Online series, as her bankroll was too small to pay direct buy-ins. She didn’t succeed in the satellites but, for losing one of them, got a ticket to the Second Chance freeroll. It was the ticket to the $109 tournament, and her table was shown live on Twitch with Matt Staples commenting on the game.
Matt Staples, a member of the PartyPoker Team Online, busted in tenth place but continued to watch the WPT 6-Max Warm Up ending. As a result, the viewers saw how Liliane took third place and received $13 153 in prize money. Prior to that, the Brazilian girl’s biggest poker payout was $180.
The girl also said that she had bought an educational content on playing early stages in 6-max tournaments before the tournament started. In between the first and second game days, Liliane proceeded to study the game strategy at the middle and late stages.
Figueiredo has got acquainted with poker thanks to her boyfriend Paulo Eduardo. It was he to tell the girl the rules and basics of poker and Liliane liked the game so much that she decided to seriously get involved in this business. We don't know how Liliane’s future poker career will unfold, but it's safe to say that the start was very successful.
