Brit Wins WCOOP Central Title: Stokes Triumphs in Main Event
The last day of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) on PokerStars confirmed the principal trend of the entire series – the dominance of players from Great Britain.
Ivan "ILS007" Stokes grabbed the chip lead midway through Day 2 of the ME and held it until Day 4 when he became the WCOOP Main Event champion, earning $1,047,257 in prize money. The final obstacle to Stokes' victory was Swedish player ShipitFTW911, who started heads-up as a large underdog and, despite a small early comeback, was unable to match the Brit. The prize to a runner-up was $765,388.
The most experienced online professional who is used to high stakes competition was Swedish superstar Lena900. However, he failed to make it to the final three and the result was fourth place.
Interestingly, in the final hand of the tournament, two pocket pairs met – kings against nines. And what’s even more interesting is that this hand lasted three whole minutes!
