Daniel Negreanu Confidently Won the First Official Tournament in 2024
Recently, Daniel Negreanu summed up the extremely unfortunate results of 2023 year, and after that he immediately began to correct the situation. The Canadian became the winner of the first event of the PGT poker festival, which had a very symbolic name – PGT Last Chance Event.
The first major poker tournament of the year with a buy-in of $10,100 had 91 entries and a prize pool of $910,000.
The field of the participants contained a lot of professionals, so it is not surprising that many famous players reached the final table of the tournament. Among them was, for example, the scandalous Justin Bonomo who recently joined the Run It Once coaching team. As for heads-up, Negreanu's opponent was a representative of the German poker school, Daniel Smiljkovic.
The deciding hand of the tournament was Negreanu's all-in on the 10♦️ J♣️ J♥️ 4♣️ board. Smiljkovic had a trip of jacks with J♦️ 2♦️ and Negreanu pushed a gutshot and two overcards – A♦️ K♥️. However, the river was on the side of the Canadian, the Q♥️ gave him a straight. Winning this tournament gave Negreanu $218,400 in prize money, which still doesn't make up for last year's setbacks, but it's a good start for 2024 year.
