Maria Konnikova Returns as a PokerStars Ambassador
Maria Konnikova, who is known both in the world of poker and the world of writers, announced that she is returning to the ranks of PokerStars as a brand ambassador. This is not the first collaboration between Maria and the red-spade room.
In 2017, Maria announced that she was starting to learn the game of poker without having any experience in card games. Her mentor was the well-known professional player and member of the Poker Hall of Fame, Erik Seidel. Her results were really good: in January 2018, she won $86,000 in the PCA National tournament, and a little later she took second place in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau tournament and received $57,000.
In June 2018, Konnikova signed a partnership agreement with PokerStars, but already in November 2019, she announced her retirement from poker. This decision was made because it was then that her book "The Biggest Bluff" was to be published. But in the end, Maria did not leave poker, and continued to play at major events such as the WSOP.
Her most famous work "The Biggest Bluff" became a New York Times bestseller. It was presented in 2020 and got really popular quickly.
And so, almost four years later, the duo reunited again. This time, Maria's partnership with PokerStars will be even deeper, as she will now lead the newly launched North American division of the site. She also became the fourth ambassador to join PokerStars for a second term, following Brazilian soccer icons Neymar Jr., Ronaldo and Portugal's Andre Coimbra.
In a press release, Steve Preiss, the VP of PokerStars North America, implied that no one can match Maria’s talent for articulating the merits of poker. He mentioned that she would play a crucial role in their mission to introduce the game to new audiences.
