PokerStars Sunday Storm Anniversary was canceled

Sunday Storm at PokerStars

Yesterday, PokerStars hosted the Sunday Storm Anniversary. The tournament guarantee was $1 000 000 with a democratic buy-in of $11. Many players were qualified even cheaper through the satellites. For example, PokerStars handed out 9 000 tickets to the mega-freeroll.

Despite serious preparations, the tournament was canceled. It was canceled a few hours after the start, but the players were promised compensation.

According to PokerStars rules, if the tournament stops before reaching prize zone, then the tournament fee will be returned to the players. The prize fund is shared among the players at 50%:

  • 50% of the prize fund is shared equally between the participants remaining in the game
  • 50% is shared in proportion to the stacks of participants

Obviously, the remaining participants didn't count on such a prize money. The tournament chip leader received a payout of $203, but with a fortuitous turn of events, he was able to enrich with a five-digit amount.
